Kemi Oyedepo: Locate Your Purpose Now

Every man and woman was created for something. Haven’t you heard, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart…” (Jeremiah 1:5). You are not just to be on the earth, roaming about and waiting to just be married; you and I are here to impact others positively. Have a vision and a plan of where you are going in life (Proverbs 29:18).

As a single woman, it must not be heard of you that you are waiting for your husband before you get moving; that is unwise. No man wants a liability, every man wants an asset; someone who will add value to his mission on the earth. Locate a purpose for your life! There are many women whose goals are just to cater to their family (husband and children) alone. While there is nothing wrong with that, it cannot be the ONLY thing you are doing. The children will grow up and leave to fulfill their own purpose on the earth. When that becomes a reality in your life, what next? While you are catering to your family at home, have a passion and vision for something so that when the children do step out in life, you don’t spend eternity trying to figure out your next step in life.

You are not just to meet the needs of your family, others outside your family must testify to the impact you made in their lives while you were on the earth. Go to God in prayer and locate a purpose for your life; ask God specifically what He has given life to you for, and pursue it, as you wait to be found. The same goes for a man. You are to be the breadwinner of the family anyway, so this is not optional for you. However, you must locate the reason for your existence so you are not frustrated. If you don’t know what your assignment is in life, how can you relay it effectively to the one who is to be a helpmeet (wife) to you, the one who is to help you get to your destination? Have a detailed plan, so that SHE that reads it can run with it, with ease and clarity (Habakkuk 2:2).

Any woman who is hesitant to follow her husband, the leader of the family is usually that way because the man himself is unsure of where he is going. Locate your own purpose. There is nothing more frustrating than a leader who has no idea where he is going. I heard someone say that if you don’t know where you are going, anywhere you get to will look like your destination, and sooner or later, you will lose the confidence of your followers. As a man or woman, in this critical time of your life (single days), make sure that you use it to build yourself up to be an asset to your spouse, family and the world at large!
