Kogi State Government has assured that it is committed to bringing lasting peace to troubled communities of Kupa and Bagana in Kogi State.
Yomi Awoniyi, Kogi State Deputy Governor and Chairman State Emergency Management Agency, gave the assurance when he received a report from the officials of National Emergency Management Agency, who where on assessment tour of Kupa and Bagana to assess the extent of damages and destruction done to lives and properties that affected the two communities, during recent communal clashes months ago.
Awoniyi disclosed of Capt. Wada’s resolve to ensure that the affected communities and others in the State do not experience a reoccurrence, urged communities in the State to live in peace with one another.
Awoniyi thanked NEMA for honouring Kogi State’s invitation to visit the crisis areas, said the State looks forward to whatever assistance it can get to complement the little effort at providing succour to those affected.
While noting that the State had made efforts in alleviating the difficulties of the people affected by the clashes, support from the Federal Government, Awoniyi noted will go a long way to cushion, the loss of lives and properties suffered by the people.
In a remarks, Isaiah Chonoko, NEMA Abuja co-ordinator, urged the State Government to find an amicable solution in the crisis between warring communities in Kupa and Bagana.
While noting that NEMA’s visit was to enable the agency carry-out an on the spot assessment with the view to enable the intervention and support by the Federal Government, assured of federal government support to the state.
Earlier in her remarks, Mrs. Alice Ogedengbe, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, said the NEMA visit was an eye opener as it will not only allow for assistance to affected persons, she disclosed that efforts to reunite warring communities visited was part of the Agency’s mission to Kupa and Bagana. Present at the visit was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Emergency and Disaster Management, AVM Gabriel Abdul (rtd).
