Dekina and Kogi local government teams have booked a place in the semifinal of the 2015 Kogi State Governor’s Cup following victories against Okehi and Adavi respectively.

While Ape Omatugba’s solitary effort were all Dekina needed to secure passage  against a stubborn Okehi team into the semi final stages on Saturday.

Strikes from Mohammed Salisu and Alhassan Yakub helped Coach Umar Isah’s Kogi team squeeze past Adavi by 2-1 on Sunday.

Despite narrow loss to Dekina, Special Adviser to Kogi governor for Okehi local government area Abdulraheem Ganja, admits his side’s were unlucky but pledged a come back.

“We (Okehi) won for having come this far. This was Dekina’s day. Expect us, we are coming back stronger next time,” Ganja said.

But Adavi coach Haruna Habib who lamented his side’s exit at the expense of Kogi blamed their loss on their underutilized scoring opportunities.

“We could’ve win them (Kogi) if we had taken our chances. It is a great experience for us and we’re happy with the fair officiating,” Habib said.

Earlier, Kabba/Bunu and Omala sealed last four spots with victories against Lokoja and Igalamela/Odolu respectively a week ago.

In the semi-final fixtures, Kabba/Bunu will play Dekina while Kogi will face Omala for a place in the final.

Both semi-final ties billed for the Lokoja Confluence Stadium have been fixed for 11th and 13th September respectively.

The final of this year’s state-wide football championship organized by the Kogi State Football Association will hold on September 26 at the same main bowl.
