The best of club tennis in Nigeria, is expected to be seen today (Saturday, May 28, 2016), when players file out for the final of the annual Lagos Country Club Tennis Tournament at the club’s Isaac John, Ikeja facility.

The club, reputed to have the best clay court in Nigeria, four in all and two hard courts, had recently refurbished and upscaled some of its facilities, to enhance the game, with the best of modern floodlights to enable night’s play.

Segun Aluko, captain of the tennis section of the club, in a statement, said everything had been put in readiness to have a great final, urging the public to watch out for the very best of tennis entertainment, as the club also paraded some of the best players of club tennis in the country.
He said everybody is quite upbeat.

The statement said: “After two weeks of very competitive tennis and funfair, the annual Lagos Country Club Tennis tournament will climax today. The championship which featured the best of players in the Tennis section participating in events which include men’s singles, men’s doubles, ladies doubles and veterans doubles for over 60 years and above.

“This is the flagship annual tournament of the tennis section, which features the best players on the ladder and the one with the biggest prizes from the other competitions held all year round at Lagos Country Club Tennis section. Apart from the competitiveness of the tournament, the major goal of fitness and bonding amongst members remains the ultimate aim of the championship, in a fun and friendly environment. There are over 80 players participating in this two-week activity with great display of skills and experience.

“The Chairman of the section, Dr. Arinze Onubogu corroborated that all members of the section look forward to the annual tournament due to upsets and comebacks with members showing determination to raise their game and take on any challenge. Each  edition is becoming bigger and better with more participants, sponsors and spectators.

“Lagos Country Club is a recreation club which encourages its members to stay healthy by being active in an inclusive environment.”
