Topic: The Lord Is My Helper [Open Heavens for Teens 15 July 2019]

Memorise: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” – Proverbs 3:5

Read: 2 Chronicles 14:11-15

11 And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

12 So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.

14 And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

15 They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

Bible In One Year: Psalm 17-18, Acts 19:1-20

MESSAGE:

Many times, people promise you things and they fail to fulfill their promises. Sometimes it is not because they don’t want to fulfill their promises, but because they are unable to fulfill it.

Someone may have promised you a stress free admission into the University, or promised to take care of you when you get into school. As you thank them for their kind gesture, don’t rely on them, rely on God alone. God is the only one whose help is guaranteed. He is the one who puts certain people on our path to help us with different situations. If that person fails, God can raise someone else to help you.

The only way we can get God’s help is through humility. You need to expressly let Him know don’t have any other helper asides Him, and that we can’t do it on our own.

Key Point:

While human beings change, God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Put your trust in the Solid Rock.

Hymn 1:

  1. My faith looks up to Thee,
    Thou Lamb of Calvary,
    Savior divine!
    Now hear me while I pray,
    Take all my guilt away,
    Oh, let me from this day
    Be wholly Thine!
  2. May Thy rich grace impart
    Strength to my fainting heart,
    My zeal inspire!
    As Thou hast died for me,
    Oh, may my love to Thee
    Pure, warm and changeless be,
    A living fire!
  3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
    And griefs around me spread,
    Be Thou my guide;
    Bid darkness turn to day,
    Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
    Nor let me ever stray
    From Thee aside.
  4. When ends life’s transient dream,
    When death’s cold sullen stream
    Shall o’er me roll;
    Blest Savior, then, in love,
    Fear and distrust remove;
    Oh, bear me safe above,
    A ransomed soul.
