Medical doctors of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners, Ogun State Chapter, have begun a one-week warning strike today, 7th March, 2016.

In a communique issued at the end of its emergency general meeting, the association revealed that the strike was aimed at getting the attention of the state government on urgent issues affecting the health sector of the state.

The association also claimed that series of letters have been written to  Governor Ibikunle Amosun on the urgent needs of the health sector, especially in areas of inadequate facilities and shortage of staff.

In spite of the numerous letters the doctors’ association said that the state government has failed to attend to the pressing issues, thereby making their working conditions more difficult.

The body also identified shortage of staff across all cadres of the health workers, submitting that there was no new recruitment in the last two to three years, despite the increasing demands on the sector.

The body also threatened that if the warning strike failed to attract government attention to their plight, more stringent measures will be taken to press their demands.
