TOPIC: Different Kinds Of Love (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 24 June 2019)

The MESSAGE:
Greek scholars defined four types of love, based on their motives. The first kind of love is “Eros”: it stands for passionate, sensual romantic love. It is simply the pleasure of the flesh and God restricts this to a one man one woman relationship within the bounds of holy matrimony. Outside marriage, it amounts to sexual sin.
The second is “Phileo”: this represents the affection between friends, e.g., brotherly love for companionship. It describes relationship in which people genuinely like and care for one another. Phileo love is one of enjoyment and appreciation. It is a powerful bond that forms communities. For example, in John 11:36 in the story of Lazarus when Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus, the Jews exclaimed, “See how he loved (phileo) him.” Jesus had a close and personal relationship with Lazarus. Also, it was the kind of love between David and Jonathan (1 Samuel 18:1-3).
Another type of love is family love known as “Storge”. This is the natural bond between mother and infant, father, children and relatives. This kind of love is usually expressed in the times of victory, pain, need, success, failure, sickness and achievement. Examples in Scripture include the love Mary and Martha had for their brother Lazarus, the love Jacob had for his sons.
And the ultimate love is the “Agape” love. It is an infinite love. When Jesus in John 21:15-17 asked Simon, “Lovest thou me more than these? He was asking Simon if he had Agape love for him. Agape love is unconditional and puts others first. This is exactly the class of love God desires all His children should have for one another. May this grace be evident in our lives, in Jesus’ name.

- Holy Spirit, disconnect my life from every bitterness and coldness, in the name of Jesus.
- I receive divine promotion in the school of the Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus.
