MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 25 February 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – The Rear Mirror Syndrome

TOPIC: The Rear Mirror Syndrome (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 25 February 2019)

Bible In One Year: Numbers 9-11; Mark 5:1-20

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Genesis 19:21-29

MEMORY VERSE: “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,” – Philippians 3:13

The MESSAGE:

Many people suffer from what is called rear mirror syndrome. A driver that has his eyes always fixed on the rear mirror risks having an accident and may not reach his destination in time or at all. Travelling on the highway of life is like driving. Your focus should be more on your front and less on your back. While the events that happened in your past in life are important, they should not bind you to your present circumstance and your future. The truth is that some people live in the past and dwell too much on the past. As a result, their present is slowed down, unproductive and limited and their future is bleak.

How do people dwell in the past? Many made some mistakes in the past and they have found it difficult to separate themselves from that mistake. They attribute everything that is happening in their lives presently to that mistake and have allowed it to limit them, kill their enthusiasm and faith. Though these people have fasted and prayed to God and repented, they still haven’t forgiven themselves even when God has long forgiven them. They still believe that because of that mistake they are not entitled to anything good from God or man. When they want to do anything, they are gripped and driven by doubts and fear rather than faith and confidence. The Psalmist said, “If thou shall mark iniquity who shall stand but there is forgiveness with thee that thou mayest be feared.” Someone said that we respond to two kinds of pull. The pull of our past and the pull of our future. Our past focuses on our performance and failure while our future focuses on what can be done through the grace of God. Those who respond to the pull of the past to the detriment of the future will not achieve much in life. Like Paul, we should forget the past (our mistakes, failures, inadequacies) and press forward to attain, by God’s grace, the glorious things God has ahead for us.

Beloved, do not dwell in the past. It is wrong to keep talking about your past achievements so much and do nothing to move your life forward today or fail to prepare for great record of achievement for the future. What you achieved yesterday is in yesterday’s record. Press forward and achieve greater things for today and the future. Stop the rear mirror syndrome. The past is past. Don’t dwell too long in one place. Move forward! Remember not the former things.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
THE PAST IS BEHIND, LEARN FROM IT. THE FUTURE IS AHEAD, PREPARE FOR IT. THE PRESENT IS HERE, LIVE IT.

PROPHETIC WORD:
The Lord will restore to you all your wasted years.
