MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 3 April 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Awake From Self Deception

TOPIC: Awake From Self Deception (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 3 April 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Judges 19-21; Luke 7:31-50

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Revelation 3:15-19

MEMORY VERSE: “Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:6

The MESSAGE:

It is rather disheartening that the Church is indeed in a state of spiritual slumber. Many believers do not even bother to subject themselves to the searchlight of the Holy Spirit in order to discover their true spiritual condition. We celebrate earthly well-being which will not go beyond this world of vanity in utter neglect of the most essential things for our eternal well-being. The Church is not in any way different from the Laodicean church which was blind to its own needs and unwilling to face the truth. Yet, honesty is the beginning of true blessing which comes from sincere realisation of whom we are, confession of our sins, and passionate plea for God’s mercy and His loving kindness to supply all that we need. If we want God’s best for our lives and churches, we must be honest with God in our Christian lives and service.

There are four major things to learn from the church at Laodicea. In the first instance, they had lost their vigour. In the Christian life, there are three “spiritual temperatures” believers may exhibit: a burning heart that is on fire for God (Luke 24:32), a cold heart (Matthew 24:12), and a lukewarm heart (Revelation 3:16). The lukewarm Christian is comfortable, complacent, and does not realise his need. If he were cold, at least he would feel It! As believers in Jesus Christ, we ought to be “fervent in spirit” (Romans 12:11). Fervent prayer is also vital to maintain very hot spiritual temperature (Colossians 4:12). When we consider the natural food we eat, you’ll realise that we mostly enjoy a beverage that is either hot or cold, not the one that is flat and stale. The Laodicean church was independent, self-satisfied, and secure but unknown to them, their spiritual power had decayed.

The next thing to note is that they had lost their values. They boasted that they were rich, when in fact they were poor. Perhaps we have here a hint of why this church declined spiritually: they had become proud of the ministry and had begun to measure things by human standards instead of by spiritual values. They were, in the eyes of the Lord, “wretched, miserable and poor.” True to it, we see many churches today boasting of ownership of private jets and the largest congregation rather than the most aggressive in evangelism. They are indeed physically wealthy, and spiritually poor and wretched.

The third point is that, they had lost their vision. They had become blind; not able to see reality. They were living in a fool’s paradise, proud of a church that was about to be rejected. The reality is that, when a believer is not growing in the Lord, his spiritual vision is affected because he does not feed on the appropriate spiritual diet. These people could not see themselves as they really were, nor could they see the open doors of opportunity. They were so wrapped up in building their own kingdom that they had become lukewarm in their concern for a lost world.

The last point is that they had lost their vesture. These Christians thought they were clothed in splendour when they were really naked! They needed the white garments of God’s righteousness and grace. They thought they were glorifying God, when in reality they were disgracing His name just as though they had been walking around naked. Does this not rightly describe the state of the church today? Rather than do the work of the Lord which is basically soul wining, they are busy treading with the blood of the Lord to acquire wealth and fame. The urgent call of the Lord is to repent of this pride of life and be humble before Him. Stir up the inner fire and cultivate a burning heart. The Lord wants us to examine our own lives and ministries carefully and turn around to do His will. Judgement is going to come to this world and it will certainly begin at God’s house (1 Peter 4:17).

May the Lord help us to hear what the Spirit is saying today to the church, and to the individuals in the churches!
