MEMORY VERSE: “For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.” – Ecclesiastes 7:12
The MESSAGE:
The Bible tells us that “the love of money is the root of all evil.” This means that money is not evil itself but the love of money. The love of money pushes people into wrong acquisition of money and wealth which will eventually put them in bondage. When a person is willing to sacrifice his eternal life to have money on earth at all costs, that is a problem and money then becomes bondage. Bondage means enslavement or lack of freedom. The quest to make money by all types of dubious means has put many people into money bondage which they cannot free themselves from except by divine intervention. Financial inadequacy, poverty, debt, covetousness and greed have put several people in bondage. Many have been pushed into prostitution, drug trafficking, armed robbery, bribery, kidnapping, using wrong measuring scales to sell in order to make quick money to the detriment of their souls. Any money or wealth you get which does not give you peace of mind but leaves you with trepidation is bondage. Many Christians are wallowing in penury because they refuse to pay their tithes and give good offerings to God. They argue about first fruits, sowing seed and refuse to comply in these areas thereby depriving themselves of God’s blessings. Some other Christians refuse to give for church building projects, mission projects, etc. Some do not even give to the poor, needy, fatherless and the widows. Many refuse to give to their ministers. Extravagance and over frugality combined with the aforementioned put some Christians in bondage.
Some Christians are in financial bondage of indebtedness, poverty and hardship because they lack the knowledge of God’s word. They do not know that it is God’s desire to prosper His children therefore they do not pray, search the Bible to discover the promises of God and claim them. Some do not seek Godly counsel before embarking on businesses, some people go into wrong investments; some are not in the right locations that will help their businesses to thrive. Some Christians are under serious foundational bondage which inhibits what they are doing to earn money. Some are under curses and negative covenants that have resulted in ‘dryness of hands’. No matter how hard they try, they find themselves in money bondage. Brethren, money bondage is a reality but it is possible to overcome it. How to overcome money bondage: You must be born again and surrender your all to Jesus as this will make God take over all your affairs and fight for you. Know the things that a Christian should not do and avoid them. Repent and make restitutions for the things you acquired wrongly when the spirit of mammon was holding you in bondage. Seek for counsel in case of sensitive issues like when starting a business and investing your money. Disengage from ungodly businesses that may ruin your testimony. Train yourself in self-contentment to avoid debt and involvement in ungodly deals. Learn proper financial budgeting to avoid debts. Be disciplined, trust in the Lord and hand over all your cares to Him and He will lead and care for you.
