BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 116-118; 1 Corinthians 7:1-19

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 2 Samuel 12:9-13

MEMORY VERSE: “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” – Psalms 147:3

The MESSAGE:

As human beings, we cannot but make mistake or fall into error, but the way we handle our failure or mistake matters a lot to God.

David is a good example of someone who fell into error in the Bible. He slept with his subordinate’s wife and killed the man when he realised that the woman was pregnant for him. What a terrible thing!

When prophet Nathan came to him, he narrated his story indirectly back to him, and he realised his atrocities, he replied “I have sinned against God!”. This is a contrite and a sincere heart; which never look for a way to cover or patch up his sin. The Bible says “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13).

The only thing that prolongs the consequences of men errors and mistake is excuse, ego and …when a man starts giving excuse to cover up for his failures or errors, the Bible says such a man shall not prosper.

That was what affected Adam and Eve in the scripture. They fell into sin and never admitted they had sinned but rather, were passing the blame unto each other and even on the serpent.

In Genesis 3:13, “Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Instead of acknowledging her fault, she used the serpent to cover up for her error. Adam who received the instruction from God also gave an excuse: “The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.” These irresponsible actions incurred the wrath of God with dire consequences for the first couple.

As believers, the best way to handle mistakes and failure is to first admit to committing the error or failure, confessing it to God, and forsaking it. The Bible says that “whoso confess his sin and forsake it shall have mercy.”

If you confess your error or mistake like David, the Lord will have mercy on you. When you confess it, believe in your heart that He has forgiven you. Say in your heart: “The Lord has given me”, then move ahead with the resolve to serving Him better next time.
