MEMORY VERSE: “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.” – James 5:17-18
The MESSAGE:
Prayer is one important asset God has given to man and it often said that ‘a closed mouth is a closed destiny’. Little wonder the Bible encourages believers to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). The Psalmist, having known the relevance of this important tool for his life fulfilment, cried out to God; “O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come” (Psalm 65:2). Biblical accounts and experiences of our time show that great things and truly all things are achieved through prayers. By prayers, the sea parted before Moses and Isreal, the sun stood still for Joshua; three nations perished before Judah when Jehoshaphat cried to God; God secured Judah against king Sennacherib when Hezekiah prayed in faith; the wisdom of Ahithophel became foolish for king David’s sake; Daniel was saved from the jaws of lions, Jesus called Lazarus out of the grave after four days, Peter was delivered from prison and all the expectations of the jews, and lots more. Indeed, there had never been any occurrence of success in evangelism or soul-winning, healing, deliverance, recovery, breakthrough and other miracles without intercession. Therefore, the solution to that situation confronting your life and marriage, children, family, friend or neighbour, church, city or nation, etc., lies in prayer and not murmuring or complaints.
Prayer is the power that no other force on earth can resist. Since no situation is beyond prayer, pray all manner of prayers as the Spirit of God directs you. 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 tells us how the potency of prayer brought honour to Jabez -a man whose name was synonymous with sorrow. So, pray when your strength becomes very little for prayer is the heartbeat of man; it will quicken and refresh you. Samson prayed as a blind man in captivity and got awesome result (Judges 16:28-30). Pray when you consider it too late to pray for it may please God to step into that hopelessness. Elijah singlehandedly withstood king Ahab and his satanic prophets and thereby restored the nation of Israel to God when God answered him by fire (1 Kings 18). A condemned thief secured paradise with Jesus by just one sentence of prayer: “Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom” (Luke 23:42). Pray when you consider your location or situation unfit for prayer. Jonah prayed while in the belly of a fish and God answered him (Jonah 2:1). Pray when you are lonely or feel forsaken -Elisha, when faced by Jordan made one cry, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” and the river parted. The potency of prayer does not depend on your colour, tribe, age, education and vocabulary, position in life, connection or ability. All you need is to get connected to the socket of the Holy Ghost so that the fire of God’s Spirit can ignite your spirit man for power unto prayer. With faith in your heart, challenge the unchallengeable in the name of Jesus and your life and situations around you will change for good.
