TOPIC: Resolving Conflicts (III) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 26 February 2022)

Bible In One Year: Numbers 15–16; Mark 6:1–29

Memory Verse: “Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift..” – Matthew 5:23-24

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES:
The most effective way of resolving conflicts is through dialogue. Healthy and effective communication heals.

PRAISE AND WORSHIP:
Take praise and worship songs as led by the Holy Spirit.

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
Today, the very God of peace shall envelop your entire being as you resolve all pending conflicts, in the Name of Jesus.

Fire Scripture: Philemon 1 (KJV)

1 Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,

2 And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:

3 Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

4 I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,

5 Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;

6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

7 For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.

8 Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,

9 Yet for love’s sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

10 I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:

12 Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:

13 Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:

14 But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

15 For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;

16 Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?

17 If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.

18 If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;

19 I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.

20 Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.

21 Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.

22 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

23 There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;

24 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.

25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

Mountain Top Life Message:

Having explained so much on how to manage our relationships with little or no grudges against one another as Christians, we need to go on to steps for peaceful resolution of conflicts.

The whole exercise revolves around the parties involved, who should start with a willingness to let peace reign. There is a possibility of shifting blames, finding faults and making excuses which could constitute hindrances to smooth conflict resolution. This is where the forgiving spirit comes to play first and foremost. You should take the matter to God in prayer so that you will be divinely guided into handling the resolution.

A forgiving heart is the heart that come to terms with God first over a matter. This prepares the offended for an opportunity to consider a dialogue and eventually make peace with the offender. There is no way you can entertain a discussion with someone with whom you have an axe to grind, except your heart is prepared to accommodate the offender and humbly accept and take responsibility for your own faults. Keep communication lines open, entertain a round-table talk if necessary, avoid emotionally charged words and actions, and put your emotions under strict control.

According to scriptures earlier read, first seek audience with the other party but if this fails, you can proceed to involve possibly an older fellow or a closer friend; at times a group of brethren, depending on the seriousness of the matter. This is not to expose or ridicule the other party but to seek other people’s views for a better understanding. Furthermore, avoid seeking your own interests above the other person’s (Philippians 2:1-5).

Put away every negative thought and imagination. Avoid bitterness and allow all wounds to receive healing by the power of God. Be ready for a healthy reconciliation and be restored. Even where this may not be possible for any reason, ensure that your conscience is clean and with a pure heart, you receive the other person.

Remember that God forgave us and we should not harbour bitterness so that our prayers would be answered.

One last but important thing to note is that refusal to forgive and settle disputes amicably will put you into emotional prison. Please forgive and let go of all hurts and you will begin to enjoy the fullness of God’s promises for His beloved.
