TOPIC – The Spirit Of The Elder Brother (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Devotional 6 October 2026)
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 11, Jeremiah 12, John 19, John 20.
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Luke 15:25-32 (KJV)
25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing.
26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
MEMORY VERSE: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; – Hebrews 12:15 (KJV)
MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES: Do not take your closeness with God for granted.
PRAISE AND WORSHIP: Take praise and worship songs as led by the Holy Spirit.
PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY: May you not be defiled with bitterness, in the Name of Jesus.
MFM Devotional For Today 2026 MESSAGE:
The story of the prodigal son is well known to most Bible readers, but many often do not bother to consider the case of the elder brother. Even though he remained with the father, his heart wasn’t right. He was displeased with the rousing welcome given to his brother who had rebelled.

Many Christians are like the elder brother who appeared not to be concerned about his runaway brother. He never thought of looking for him, neither was he bothered by his absence. Probably, he was not even expecting his return. After all, he should be ready to bear the consequences of his wasteful life. Humanly speaking, the elder brother was right to an extent; But, have you forgotten that we are called to be our brother’s keepers’ and not judges?
The question is this: are you like this elder brother? He could not understand the father’s joyful response at the return of the prodigal. He would have preferred that he was not allowed to return home, let alone given a royal welcome. He was angry, jealous and resentful. He did not justify his stay with the Father, who said all he had was for him, while he remained with the father. Remember, Jesus did not come for those who are healthy but for the sick. He is more concerned about the lost than those who are standing. God wants His saints to also be more concerned about the salvation of the lost. Heaven rejoices at the repentance of a sinner more than a saint.
For the sake of Christ, don’t be like the elder brother who demonstrated an unbroken attitude, a grumbling and complaining spirit that doesn’t see any good thing in others and an entitlement syndrome. God is more interested in people who have a repentant heart, a broken and contrite spirit. He draws them to himself like the prodigal son.
