TOPIC: The Spirit-Controlled Life (Mountain Of Fire And Miracle Ministries Friday, 31 August 2018)
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Romans 8:10-14
MEMORY VERSE: “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” – John 3:8
The MESSAGE:
A believer is not marked by a mere profession and confession of faith, but rather by the dwelling and leading of God’s Spirit in Him (Romans 8:11,14). Sin dwells in those whose sinful nature has not been subdued by the entrance of the Holy Spirit. Paul desired to serve the indwelling Spirit instead of the sinful flesh which struggled against this (Romans 7:22, 23). If he had been led by his old nature, one could question whether he was truly saved. Once we have come to possess spiritual life by means of the implanted Spirit, or after having being ‘born again’ (John 3:3), it is impossible for the dead flesh to rule over the Spirit on a permanent basis (1 John 3:6). The born again believer has a responsibility to follow the Spirit. The Lord does not produce in us a static, dormant stupor when the Spirit enters. In fact, just the opposite occurs; we are immediately called into active combat. We are debtors not to the flesh, to live after the flesh, but we are under obligation to God. Because we personally did nothing to merit the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, we are indebted to God for His presence in our lives. The way we repay God for His grace is to follow after the Spirit and not the flesh.
There are inevitable consequences of our lifestyles. Our way of life clearly demonstrates whether we have been born again into God’s family. If you live after the flesh, you shall die (Romans 8:13). Such a person clearly does not have the Spirit in him and will be eternally separated from God, no matter what profession of faith he makes. He is excluded because his life yields the fruit of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21). Those who follow the Spirit, on the other hand, grow from the immature state of childhood to the maturity of sonship, which as grown-ups voluntarily conforms to Jesus Christ. Their conformity to Christ confirms that they were indeed born again and are ‘joint-heirs’ with Christ. This growth into sonship is achieved by means of obedience to the Holy Spirit in our lives (Romans 8:14) and God’s will for us (Ephesians 2:10). There is, therefore, now no condemnation to them, which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. When the Spirit of God controls our lives, we become fully yielded to God, obey His commands, and do His will always. We will please Him daily and walk with Him in holiness and righteousness. It then becomes so easy to love God and others unconditionally while we serve Him diligently and sincerely without seeking any selfish reward or benefit. Is the Spirit of God truly controlling your life? Do you have any evidence to this effect? Look inward and make amends where necessary.

1. Every struggle of the flesh over my spiritual life, catch fire and burn to ashes, in the name of Jesus.
2. Holy Spirit, burn off every nature of sin in my life, in the name of Jesus.
3. Works of the flesh in my life, die by fire, in the name of Jesus.

4. Selfishness in my spiritual assignment, depart from me now by fire, in the name of Jesus.
5. Holy Spirit, nurture Your fruit in my life, in the name of Jesus.
6. I decree death and destruction to every voice of the flesh speaking failure into my life, in the name of Jesus.
7. O Lord, help me to fully conform to Your image, in the name of Jesus.
