READ: 1 Peter 3:1-4

  1. Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
  2. While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
  3. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
  4. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

MESSAGE:

In today’s Bible reading, a comparison is made between outward and inward adornment. The outward adornment is corruptible while the inward is incorruptible. Also, the outward adornment is about the body, that is, the kind of clothes, jewellery, hair-do/hair-style, make-up, shoes et cetera, while the inward one is about the soul – that is, ones character. Unfortunately, young people focus and spend so much on their appearance from clothing to make-up, accessories et cetera, yet are haggard on the inside.

My dear, physical beauty is good but spiritual beauty is better. There is no crime in being handsome or beautiful. There’s also no harm in dressing gorgeously but it is way better to pay more attention on your inward adornment. Work on your character, engage in spiritual exercises such as fasting, praying and meditating on God’s word. The interesting thing is, when you pay more attention to your inner beauty, it will reflect on the outward appearance. If you are beautiful inwardly, you will be beautiful outwardly. Outer beauty without the corresponding character is vanity.

KEY POINT:

Invest in your inner beauty because it will reflect on your outward appearance.

HYMN: Let Others See Jesus In You

  1. While passing through this
    world of sin,
    And others your life shall view,
    Be clean and pure without, within,
    Let others see Jesus in you.

Chorus:
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

  1. Your life’s a book before their eyes,
    They’re reading it through and through;
    Say, does it point them to the skies,
    Do others see Jesus in you?
  2. What joy ’twill be at set of sun,
    In mansions beyond the blue,
    To find some souls that you have won;
    Let others see Jesus in you.
  3. Then live for Christ both day and night,
    Be faithful, be brave, and true,
    And lead the lost to life and light;
    Let others see Jesus in you.
