MEMORISE: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalms 119:11

READ: Jonah 1:1-4

  1. Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
  2. Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
  3. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
  4. But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Lamentations 3-5, Hebrews 8:1-13

MESSAGE:

God desires progress for all His children. As a Christian teenager, you must not remain static for too long. You must keep moving. Don’t be like Jonah who tried to hinder his progress by running away from his divine assignment. God sent him to Nineveh to instruct the people to repent from their evil ways but Jonah felt they should be punished for past evils. Jonah set out in the opposite direction and God blocked his progress.

Any direction a fellow takes contrary to God’s plan will not be in his/her interest at the end of the day. No one can make real progress while disobeying God. For instance, a teenager who engages in examination malpractice to get an excellent result may gain admission into the University but will be living a lie or life of cheating just to have good results.

Progress does not necessarily entail acquisition of material things or doing well academically and in your career. Progress is actually doing what God wants you to do per time. Any progress that does not originate from God is a curse in disguise.

KEY POINT:

True progress comes when you’re in obedience to God’s will.

HYMN: When We Walk With The Lord

  1. When we walk with the Lord
    In the light of His word,
    What a glory He sheds on our way!
    While we do His good will,
    He abides with us still,
    And with all who
    will trust and obey.

CHORUS
Trust and obey!
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.

  1. Not a shadow can rise,
    Not a cloud in the skies,
    But His smile quickly drives it away;
    Not a doubt nor a fear,
    Not a sigh nor a tear,
    Can abide while
    we trust and obey.
  2. Not a burden we bear,
    Not a sorrow we share,
    But our toil He doth richly repay;
    Not a grief nor a loss,
    Not a frown nor a cross,
    But is blest if we trust and
    obey.
  3. But we never can prove
    The delights of His love,
    Until all on the altar we lay,
    For the favour He shows,
    For the joy He bestows,
    Are for them who will trust
    and obey.
  4. Then in fellowship sweet
    We will sit at His feet,
    Or we’ll walk by His side in
    the way;
    What He says we will do,
    Where He sends we will go;
    Never fear, only trust and
    obey.
