READ: Mark 10:46-52

  1. And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
  2. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
  3. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.
  4. And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
  5. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
  6. And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
  7. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-20, Isaiah 53-55

MESSAGE:

Whenever I read the story of blind Bartimaeus, I always get amused at Jesus response. It was obvious that Bartimaeus was blind; I’m even sure people would have led him by the hand to Jesus, yet, the Lord asked him what he wanted. This is because it was possible for Bartimaeus to request for riches or death for his enemies.

It is true that God knows all our needs; in spite of this, He expects us to ask. Matthew 7:7 says, ask and it shall be given unto you. However, be direct when you ask. People wonder why I pray simple prayers. Well, I did not study theology, so I do not have to speak a lot of grammar before I communicate with my Father. Besides, He is not far away, He is a Supreme Being that I enjoy holding conversations with.

Believe me my child, God wants you to talk to Him as a friend. When you are in His presence, speak to Him as though you can see Him, even while referencing Him. Speak to Him in plain terms; be direct, be detailed and don’t beat about the bush. Don’t try to impress Him with big grammar, He is the originator of every human language.

KEY POINT:

Be direct when speaking to your Heavenly Father.

HYMN: Just As I Am

  1. Just as I am, without one plea,
but that Thy blood was shed for me,
and that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
Oh Lamb of God, I come, I come.
  2. Just as I am, and waiting not
to rid my soul of one dark blot,
to Thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
Oh Lamb of God, I come, I come.
  3. Just as I am, though tossed about
with many a conflict, many a doubt,
    fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
  4. Just as I am poor, wretched, blind
Sight, riches, healing of the mind
Yea, all I need, in Thee to find
Oh Lamb of God I come,
  5. Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
    wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
    because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
  6. Just as I am Thy love unknown
    Has broken every barrier down;
Now to be Thine, yea Thine alone,
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
  7. Just as I am, of that free love,
    The breadth, length, depth and
    height to prove,
Here for a season, then above,
Oh Lamb of God I come, I come.
