READ: Matthew 6:5-13 (KJV)

  1. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
  2. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
  3. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
  4. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
  5. After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
  6. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
  7. Give us this day our daily bread.
  8. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
  9. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Acts 2:1-47, Nehemiah 1-3

Open Heaven For Today 2022 MESSAGE:

A man once defined prayer to his 12-year-old son as the act of speaking into the air, believing that someone is listening and then adding in Jesus name. This shows that prayer is a simple form of communication which consists of at least four parts: first, adoration, which involves praising and worshipping God for who He is. The second part is the confession of sins; when praying, its important that you confess and repent of your sins so that your prayer will not be an abomination to God as stated in Proverbs 15:8. The third part is supplication: here, you get to make your requests known to God but it is better to pray in the Holy Ghost. Romans 8:26 says we do not know how to pray, but when you pray in the Holy Ghost, you pray the mind of God. You then wrap up your prayer by being thankful for anything and everything that God had done.

You therefore need to pray with confidence, knowing that God answers prayers and you can talk to Him anywhere, in different postures such as kneeling, walking, sitting, standing, lying down, while reading et cetera.

Whenever you call on God, He will answer.

ACTION POINT:

Pray for at least 30 minutes today, using the four parts.

HYMN: What A Friend We Have In Jesus

  1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
    All our sins and griefs to bear;
    What a privilege to carry
    Ev’rything to God in prayer
Oh! what peace we often forfeit,
Oh! what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer.
  2. Have we trials and temptations?
    Is there trouble anywhere?
    We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Can we find a Friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrow share?
    Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
  3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
    Precious Saviour still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.
