READ: Philippians 2:9-11

  1. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
  2. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
  3. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Corinthians 8:1-24, Proverbs 30-31

MESSAGE:

The name a person is called is very important because it can determine the success or failure of the bearer in life. This is why you must not allow yourself to be given just any nickname.

Our Heavenly Father knows the importance of names. He must have thought of the best reward for Jesus who willingly surrendered Himself to bear the sins of the whole world, so, He gave Him a name that is above every other. As powerful and influential as the name Adeboye is, it cannot save any man. Only the name of Jesus can save. I heard of the testimonies of how people that were about to experience an accident called the name of Jesus and they were saved. No wonder our memory verse says the name of the Lord is a strong tower.

My child, when you are in a difficult situation, who do you call? When you have a nightmare, who do you call? Do you use funny expressions like yee! or shout “Mummy” when you need urgent attention? The name of the Lord is a strong tower, especially for the righteous. Call on the name when you need a quick fix.

KEY POINT:

When in trouble, call on the name of Jesus.

HYMN: Standing On The Promises Of God

  1. Standing on the promises
    of Christ, our King,
    Thro’ eternal ages let
    His praises ring;
    Glory in the highest,
    I will shout and sing,
    Standing on the promises of God.

CHORUS
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God, my Saviour;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

  1. Standing on the promises
    that cannot fail.
    When the howling storms of
    doubt and fear assail,
    By the living word of God
    I shall prevail,
    Standing on the promises of God.
  2. Standing on the promises
    I now can see
    Perfect, present cleansing
    in the blood for me;
    Standing in the liberty
    where Christ makes free,
    Standing on the promises of God.
  3. Standing on the promises
    of Christ, the Lord,
    Bound to Him eternally
    by love’s strong cord,
    Overcoming daily with
    the Spirit’s sword,
    Standing on the promises of God.
