TOPIC: The Offspring Of David [Open Heaven for Teens 17 March 2022]
MEMORISE: And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. Matthew 21:9
READ: Matthew 22:42-46
- Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.
- He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
- The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
- If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
- And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Mark 16:1-20, Deuteronomy 28-30
MESSAGE
When David ruled as King, God promised him that he would always have a descendant as king and that his throne would be established forever. Looking at the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1:1-25 , you can tell that He is in the lineage of David.
The book of Matthew records that various people, on different occasions, acknowledged Jesus as the Son of David. For example, blind Bartimaeus laid emphasis on it in Mark 10:46-47
“And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.”
If Jesus was proud to be associated with David, then there must be something about David. God called him a man after His heart because David dedicated his whole life to praising the Lord wholeheartedly. Are people proud to be associated with you? Will your family be proud to be associated with you? If you’re not sure, then its high time you made your way right with God.
KEY POINT: Whose offspring are you, God’s or the devil’s?
HYMN: IN CHRIST ALONE
- In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All - In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid - There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of - No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
