TOPIC – Speak The Truth (Open Heaven for Teens, 18 July 2026)

MEMORISE: With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Ephesians 4:2

BIBLE READING: Jeremiah 1:4-8

4 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

6 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

7 But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

MESSAGE:

Have you ever found yourself in a tight situation where lying seemed to be the way out? I have found myself in such situations; however, I quickly remind myself that I ama child of God. As a child of God, you cannot afford to tell lies. You must stand for the truth even when it is inconvenient, because your heavenly Father never endorses lies. His word is “Yes and Amen!” (2 Corinthians 1:20). Truth brings freedom and peace, even if it leads to discomfort. Lying may offer temporary relief, but it leads to long-term pain. Sometimes, you may be afraid to correct people about the wrong things they are doing because of the fear of rejection. However, if you Correct them truthfully, God will be pleased with you. For instance, in today’s Bible reading, Prophet Jeremiah was afraid when God gave him a message for assured him that He would be with him. Jeremiah was arrested and threatened with death; yet, he never ceased to speak the truth (Jeremiah 26:8-15). He chose to be at peace with God rather than men.

My dear child, whenever you are tempted to lie, whether to please someone or to escape being punished, remember Jeremiah’s story. Also, remember that you are a child of God and speak the truth. It is better to please God than to please people.

KEY POINT:
Speak the truth always.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Luke 2:1-24, Joshua 4-6

HYMN 70 – God Sent His Son, They Called Him Jesus

1 God sent His son,
They called Him, Jesus;
He came to love,
Heal and forgive;
He lived and died
To buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there
To prove my Savior lives!

Chorus
Because He lives,
I can face tomorrow!
Because He lives,
All fear is gone.
Because I know
He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!

2 How sweet to hold
A newborn baby,
And feel the pride
And joy he brings;
But greater still
The calm assurance:
This child can face
Uncertain days because He Lives!

3 And then one day,
I’ll cross the river,
I’ll fight life’s final
War with pain;
And then, as death
Gives way to victory,
I’ll see the lights of glory
And I’ll know He lives!
