TOPIC: Our Sure Refuge [Open Heaven for Teens 2 November 2023]

MEMORISE: The Lord also will be a refuge and fortress for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Psalm 9:9

BIBLE TEXT: Psalms 71:1-2

1 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.

2 Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me.

MESSAGE:

The Almighty God is a sure refuge and fortress to His children. A refuge is somewhere a fellow hides when trouble is looming. For me, this place is the presence of God. Sometimes, hiding is not cowardice, it could be wisdom, provided you are hiding under the Sure Refuge. Even gallant warriors learn to hide; it is a military strategy

There are several occasions in the Bible when God told His prophets to hide like in 1 Kings 17:1-3. When God says you should hide, what it implies is that the battle is no longer yours but His. I have learnt to hide when God says I should. Even baby Jesus was taken into hiding so that God could deal with Herod.

You have to be careful about the things you post on social media about your life. Not everyone should know the recent updates about you. Some children have become victims of mishaps because they don’t know where to draw the line between the public and private matters of their lives. May the Lord give you the wisdom to do your part as He continues to protect you.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please be my sure refuge from today in Jesus’ mighty name.

HYMN 14 – Standing On The Promises Of God

  1. Standing on the promises of Christ our King,
Thro’ eternal ages let His praises ring:
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Chorus
Standing, Standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Saviour
Standing, Standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

  1. Standing on the promises that can-not fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail
By the living word of Go I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.
  2. Standing on the promises I now can see
    Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.
  3. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.
