READ: Luke 15:11-16

  1. And he said, A certain man had two sons:
  2. And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
  3. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
  4. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
  5. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
  6. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: John 8:1-59, 1 Chronicles 3-5

MESSAGE:

From our Bible passage for today, we are presented with the story of the prodigal son who lived a life of extravagance and wastefulness. At the time he was spending his inheritance with his friends, they would have hailed him, saying he was Father Christmas/Santa Claus for being so kind and generous, whereas he was being wasteful.

Today, a lot of young ones cannot differentiate between a giver and a wasteful fellow. A giver is a person who gives generously to the poor and needy, in obedience to God’s word. A giver recognises a need in the life of someone and takes action by giving. A giver pays tithes and gives offerings. On the other hand, a Baby-Christmas gives to prove a point. He/she gives to show off. A Baby-Christmas is stingy to the poor and needy because he/she feels they are lazy and not in his class.

A Baby-Christmas would prefer to take his/her friends out and lavish money rather than give to the less privileged. A Baby-Christmas will never save money; he/she spends as soon as the money comes in, just like the prodigal son.

The actions of a Baby-Christmas tend towards poverty and God is not happy with such a fellow.

KEY POINT:

Are you are a giver or a Baby-Christmas?

HYMN: LET OTHERS SEE JESUS IN YOU

  1. While passing through this
    world of sin,
    And others your life shall view,
    Be clean and pure without, within,
    Let others see Jesus in you.

CHORUS
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

  1. Your life’s a book before their eyes,
    They’re reading it through and through;
    Say, does it point them to the skies,
    Do others see Jesus in you?
  2. What joy ’twill be at set of sun,
    In mansions beyond the blue,
    To find some souls that you have won;
    Let others see Jesus in you.
  3. Then live for Christ both day and night,
    Be faithful, be brave, and true,
    And lead the lost to life and light;
    Let others see Jesus in you.
