READ: Acts 13:1-2

  1. Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
  2. As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Acts 24:1-27, Psalms 41-43

MESSAGE:

There are at least three categories of people when it comes to hearing God. First, those who have no ears – these are people whose consciences are dead and don’t care about the consequences of their actions. Second, those who have ears but refuse to hear – they get nudged by the Holy Spirit from time to time but choose to ignore it and go ahead with their own plans (e.g. Samson). The third are those who have ears, listen to instructions and obey them.

Here are some other reasons people don’t hear God:

  1. Not having a close relationship with God.
  2. Interference of other voices.
  3. Listening to gossip/rumours.
  4. Backbiting.
  5. Lousiness.
  6. Pride.

Work on yourself from today by taking away anything that prevents you from hearing God. Dwell more on His word and communicate with Him daily through prayers.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please eliminate everything blocking my ears from hearing You, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN: Nearer, My God

  1. Nearer, my God, to Thee,
    nearer to thee!
    E’en though it be a cross
    that raiseth me,
    still all my song shall be,
    nearer, my God,
  2. Though like the wanderer,
    the sun gone down,
    darkness be over me,
    my rest a stone;
    yet in my dreams I’d be
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  3. There let the way appear,
    steps unto heaven;
    all that Thou sendest me,
    in mercy given;
    angels to beckon me
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  4. Then with my waking thoughts
    bright with Thy praise,
    out of my stony griefs
    Bethel I’ll raise;
    so by my woes to be
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
  5. Or if, on joyful wing
    cleaving the sky,
    sun, moon, and stars forgot,
    upward I fly,
    still all my song shall be,
    nearer, my God, to Thee; (2ce)
    nearer to Thee!
