READ: 2 Kings 7:1-10

  1. Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
  2. Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
  3. And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?
  4. If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.
  5. And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.
  6. For the LORD had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.
  7. Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.
  8. And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.
  9. Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king’s household.
  10. So they came and called unto the porter of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Revelation 19:1-21, Zechariah 7-9

MESSAGE:

As a child of God, you have every right to expect a beautiful future because that is one of the promises of your Heavenly Father to you. Even if this is not your present reality, it will happen as you remain steadfast with the Lord. In the 1960s, Nigeria’s naira was as powerful as the U.S dollar but that isn’t the situation anymore. However, we the elders who experienced the ‘good old days ‘still strongly believe that better and more glorious days are ahead for all our children. Many developing countries of the world today share the same fate as Samaria.

As stated in today’s Bible reading, we see that the famine that resulted from the siege by its enemies was so terrible that mothers took turns to cook and eat their children in order to survive. May that not be our portion in Nigeria, in Jesus name.

I want to encourage you not to be afraid to dream big and expect the best from God. Irrespective of the situation you’re going through right now, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please turn things around for the good of my country.

HYMN: Pass Me Not A Gentle Saviour

  1. Pass me not, O gentle Saviour,
    Hear my humble cry,
    While on others Thou art calling,
    Do not pass me by.

CHORUS
Saviour, Saviour,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

  1. Let me at Thy throne of mercy
    Find a sweet relief;
    Kneeling there in deep contrition,
    Help my unbelief.
  2. Trusting only in Thy merit,
    Would I seek Thy face;
    Heal my wounded, broken spirit,
    Save me by Thy grace.
  3. Thou the Spring of all my comfort,
    More than life to me,
    Whom have I on earth beside Thee?
    Whom in heaven but Thee?
