TOPIC: Choose Godly Mentors (Open Heaven for Teens, 29 March 2026)

MEMORISE: As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17

BIBLE READING: Exodus 18:24-25

24 So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.

25 And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

MESSAGE:

Godly mentors help to shape people’s lives by guiding them in wisdom and faith. They establish a relationship with a person and challenge that person to grow spiritually in order to become a better version of himself or herself.

In today’s Bible reading, Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, acted as his mentor and advised him on a crucial matter – delegating leadership responsibilities. Moses humbly accepted his counsel, which not only eased his burden but also strengthened the leadership structure of Israel. This demonstrates that good mentors provide wise guidance and practical solutions.

My dear child, at this stage of your life, having godly mentors is important. They will help you navigate challenges, grow spiritually, and stay aligned with God’s purpose for your life.

When you make a mistake, a godly mentor will correct you in love and continue to inspire you with his or her exemplary lifestyle. If you do not have such a mentor in your life, prayerfully ask God to lead you to one who will help you fulfil His purpose for your life today.

Quiz: Who was Moses’ father-in-law?

HYMN 11: Blessed Assurance

1 Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

2 Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
angels descending, bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love. [Refrain]

3 Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with His goodness, lost in His love. [Refrain]
