Memorise: “And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.” – Proverbs 23:2

Read: Proverbs 23:1-3

1.When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:

2.And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

3.Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

Bible In One Year: Numbers 26-27, Mark 8:22-38

MESSAGE:

Storing excess fat in the body leads to being overweight which in turn leads to high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and other diseases. Don’t think that these diseases can only occur in adults, teenagers can also suffer from them. One major cause of obesity is over-eating. Food is good, but too much food is injurious to the health. If you cannot stop your mouth from salivating whenever you see food, watch it. If you eat even when you are not hungry, you need to watch your appetite.

Avoid eating junks and foods with lots of sugar content. Proverbs 24:13 confirms that natural honey is good for the body. However as good as honey is, it should be taken with moderation. According to today’s memory verse, if you love food too much, you must exercise great restrain against that love for food. Learn to say ‘no’ to offers of food. Learn to eat right, it is not only the quantity of food that matters but the quality too. Learn to fast. Fasting not only has spiritual benefits, it is also good for cleansing the body of harmful toxins.

Key Point:

If fruits and vegetable are not in your everyday diet, you are not eating right.

Hymn 6

  1. Our God, our help in ages past,
    Our hope for years to come,
    Our shelter from the stormy blast,
    And our eternal home:
  2. Under the shadow of your throne
    Your saints have dwelt secure;
    Sufficient is your arm alone,
    And our defense is sure
  3. Before the hills in order stood
    Or earth received its frame,
    From everlasting you are God,
    To endless years the same.
  4. A thousand ages in your sight
    Are like an evening gone
    Short as the watch that ends the night
    Before the rising sun.
  5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
    Soon bears us all away;
    We fly forgotten, as a dream
    Does at the opening day.
  6. Our God, our help in ages past,
    Our hope for years to come,
    Still be our guard while troubles last,
    And our eternal home!
