READ: 2 Corinthians 10:12-18

  1. For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
  2. But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
  3. For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
  4. Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,
  5. To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand.
  6. But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
  7. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

Open Heaven For Today 2022 MESSAGE:

The basis of every competition is comparison. In today’s world, everyone is checking to see who has the latest phone, designer wristwatch, dress, biggest social media fan base, et cetera. Some are living fake lives to measure up to the standard the world has set for popularity. I’d like you to know that unhealthy competition has many siblings such as covetousness, jealousy, pride, envy, depression and, in some cases, murder.

I know that the fear of being left behind is what pushes many young people into unnecessary competition with their friends, classmates or family members. If that is your case, its better to be left behind by people of the world than to be left behind when Jesus comes. Today’s Bible reading says that those who keep on using others as a yardstick for comparison are foolish. My child, choose to be wise. Focus on a good life led by the Holy Spirit and forget about those who you think are living big. God will make all things beautiful for you in His time.

KEY POINT:

Forget about the people you’re comparing yourself

HYMN: There Shall Be Showers Of Blessing

  1. “There shall be showers of blessing:”
    This is the promise of love;
    There shall be seasons refreshing,
    Sent from the Saviour above.

CHORUS
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need:
Mercy-drops round us are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

  1. “There shall be showers of
    blessing,”
    Precious reviving again;
    Over the hills and the valleys,
    Sound of abundance of rain.
  2. “There shall be showers of blessing;”
    Send them upon us, Oh Lord;
    Grant to us now a refreshing,
    Come and now honour Thy Word.
  3. “There shall be showers of blessing:”
    Oh, that today they might fall,
    Now as to God we’re confessing,
    Now as on Jesus we call!
  4. “There shall be showers of blessing,”
    If we but trust and obey;
    There shall be seasons refreshing,
    If we let God have His way.
