READ: 2 Kings 7:1-2

  1. Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
  2. Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Luke 10:1-42 , Judges 15-17

MESSAGE:

In todays Bible reading, Elisha the man of God prophesied that there would be a divine breakthrough and abundance in Samaria within 24 hours, but the kings financial adviser weighed all economic indices and concluded that it would not be possible. The man of God then established that the word of God would come to pass but that the financial adviser would not partake of it.

If the king had listened to his adviser, he also would not have tasted of it.You should be careful who you seek counsel or advice from. Some people, when confronted with challenges, visit witch doctors, unbelievers or seers for direction and end up being led to their doom. God’s blessings always abound with those who don’t follow worldly advice because they trust in God to guide them aright. The Bible says in Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Some people will counsel you based on sentiments or their experiences but only Jesus will tell you the truth. Develop a relationship with Him through His word that truly sets free (John 8:32 ).

KEY POINT:

Make Jesus your Counsellor today.

HYMN: O SPREAD THE TIDINGS ROUND

  1. Oh, spread the tidings round,
    Wherever man is found,
    Wherever human hearts and
    human woes abound;
    Let every Christian tongue
    proclaim the joyful sound:
    The Comforter has come!

CHORUS
The Comforter has come,
The Comforter has come!
The Holy Ghost from heaven,
The Father’s promise given;
O spread the tidings ’round,
wherever man is found:
The Comforter has come!

  1. Lo, the great King of kings,
    with healing in His wings,
    To every captive soul a full
    deliverance brings;
    And thro’ the vacant cells
    the song of triumph rings:
    The Comforter has come!
  2. O boundless Love divine!
    how shall this tongue of mine
    To wond’ring mortals tell
    the matchless grace divine:
    That I, a child of hell,
    should in His image shine!
    The Comforter has come!
  3. Sing, till the echoes fly
    above the vaulted sky,
    And all the saints above
    to all below reply,
    In strains of endless love,
    the song that ne’er will die;
    The Comforter has come!
