READ: Genesis 27:26-29

26 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.

27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord hath blessed:

28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

MESSAGE:

Your earthly parents are the people who, by their union, brought you into the world
They are your caretakers on earth. For you to be prosperous, you need to provoke their blessings through obedience and doing things that will bring them peace and joy.

According to the memory verse, even if they do not bless you openly, because you honour them, your Heavenly Father will bless you. When you consider the life of Jacob in the Bible, you’ll realize that though he was cheated by his father-in-law, the blessings of God pronounced upon him by his father were undeniable and they made him prosper.

You can provoke the blessings of your parents by doing the right thing at the right time, appreciating them, running errands for them, praying for them, getting good grades in school talking respectfully to them and honoring them, et cetera. Ensure you do things that will make them bless you everyday.

REFLECTION:

Have you been obedient to your parents?

HYMN 14: Standing On The Promises Of God

  1. Standing on the promises of Christ our King,
Thro’ eternal ages let His praises ring:
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Chorus
Standing, Standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Saviour
Standing, Standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

  1. Standing on the promises that can-not fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail
By the living word of Go I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.
  2. Standing on the promises I now can see
    Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.
  3. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.
