BIBLE READING: Hebrews 12:5-8
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
MESSAGE:
Some years ago, we held a week-long programme in the USA. God’s presence was strong, and His power came down mightily to bless the people. At the end of the programme, we dispersed while still talking about God’s mighty visitation. When we arrived at the hotel I was lodged in, the fellow sitting in the front passenger’s seat of the car I drove in alighted and shut the door, not knowing that my hand was in the doorframe. As the door hit my hand against the frame, I screamed in pain, and everyone panicked before they realised what had happened. While climbing up the stairs to my hotel room, my first question to God was, “Daddy, what have l done wrong?” He explained that it was my punishment for not appreciating His visitation at the programme. Immediately, I apologised and started thanking Him, and before I turned the doorknob to my hotel room, the pain had disappeared.
My dear child, God chastises His children. If He really loves you, He will correct you when you do wrong. When He does, accept His correction, and amend your Ways.
REFLECTION: How do you respond anytime God corrects you?
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Ezra 4:24-6:22 & 2 Corinthians 3:5-23
HYMN: 30 – When We Walk With The Lord
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.
3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
