TOPIC: Hearer Or Doer? [Open Heaven for Teens 8 April 2022]

MEMORISE: For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. Romans 2:13

READ: James 1:19-25

  1. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
  2. For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
  3. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
  4. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
  5. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
  6. For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
  7. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

MESSAGE:

There are two classes of Bible users – the hearers only and the hearers + doers. You can only belong to one of them. Many young people spend time listening to audio/video messages, attend Church services and do intense personal Bible study. Although all these are very good, they are not the ultimate.

When you hear or read Scripture, it stays in your mind. If left there for a while without taking further steps, it will lose its meaning to you. If you desire that word to have meaningful impact on you, then, you must go the extra mile and translate it into actions.

Give valuable time to meditating on the word you have heard so that you will find it easy to obey. Also, when you ponder on Gods word, you are bound to have deeper revelations which would help you practice it. Bear in mind that God does not bless the hearer of the word, but those who hear and do the word.

KEY POINT:

Become a doer of God’s word henceforth.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Luke 11:29-54 , Ruth 1-4

HYMN: I Need Thee Every Hour

  1. I need Thee every hour,
    Most gracious Lord;
    No tender voice like Thine
    Can peace afford.

CHORUS
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Ev’ry hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Saviour,
I come to Thee.

  1. I need Thee every hour,
    Stay Thou nearby;
    Temptations lose their power
    When Thou art nigh.
  2. I need Thee every hour,
    In joy or pain;
    Come quickly and abide,
    Or life is vain.
  3. I need Thee every hour,
    Teach me Thy will;
    And Thy rich promises
    In me fulfil.
  4. I need Thee every hour,
    Most Holy one;
    Oh, make me Thine indeed,
    Thou blessed Son!
