Memorise: Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. James 4:8

READ: Psalms 24:3-4

3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?

4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 9-11; John 5:1-24

MESSAGE:

Whatever is in your heart is a pointer to who you are. Proverbs 23:7a says:

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: “

Jesus Christ said in Matthew 15:11 that it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles, but what comes out of the mouth. When you put this alongside Luke 6:45 which says:

“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”

It becomes clear that it is what is in your heart that defiles. This is why you need to have a pure heart. How do you purify your heart? The way you make a place pure is by ensuring that it is not exposed to dirt and also by cleaning it regularly. It is the same with your heart. Ensure it is not exposed to dirty movies, dirty music or dirty conversations. Anywhere you see these things, stay away. Also, you need to keep cleaning your heart with the word of God. The more of God’s word you have in your heart, the cleaner it will be. Keep the word of God in your heart so you do not sin against God (Psalm 119:11).

Key Point:

Read your Bible daily to rid your mind of impure thoughts.

Hymn 3:

1.When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2.Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3.Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4.But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5.Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
