BIBLE TEXT: Psalms 1:1-3

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

MESSAGE:

The phrase, “blessed is the man” is a common phrase in the Bible and refers to the state of being favoured and being joyful in God’s presence. Psalm 1:1-3 teaches that true blessings come from delighting in the law of the Lord and meditating on His word day and night. Matthew 5:3-10 also says: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus teaches us that being ‘blessed’ is not about having material wealth or worldly success but about having a heart attuned to God’s will and living a righteous life. Beloved, for you to partake of this blessing, you must have a pure heart.

KEY POINT

Pray for the grace and wisdom to live a life that is pleasing to God and to experience His blessings.

HYMN 1: Let Us With A Gladsome Mind

1. Let us, with a gladsome mind,
Praise the Lord, for He is kind;
For His mercies shall endure
Ever faithful, ever sure.

2. Let us sound His name abroad,
For of gods He is the God;
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

3. He with all-commanding might
Filled the new-made world with light;
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

4. All things living He doth feed;
His full hand supplies their need;
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

5. He His chosen race did bless
In the wasteful wilderness;
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

6. He hath with a pious eye
Looked upon our misery;
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

7. Let us with gladsome mind
Praise the Lord, for He is kind;
For His mercies shall endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.
