Topic: Work to be Content [Friday May 1, 2015]

“Go therefore now, and work…” –Exodus 5: 18

I know of someone who will always tell me about a new job each time we meet. Now, the idea of that person changing jobs or business is not because there are so many options, but because he’s never patient enough to learn or take risk in/for any. So, he runs at the slightest pull and at the end of it returns to “square one”.

I remember this particular person making statements like “it is God that provides and I am happy with where I am.” While this statement may be true, it is another way to hide his lazy and nonchalant attitude towards life. I think almost everyone is confronted with one challenge or the other at work, but not everyone opts out at the slightest pressure they feel. Indeed, there is dignity in labour, especially when it’s being done with a good heart and therefore produces results.

Some people use the excuse of being content to hide their laziness. Contentment is no excuse for complacency. Yes you have to be content with all things, but you must not be slack. To slack means to be laidback and uninterested in success. So, in as much as you have to be satisfied and happy with where you are at all times, you also have to work to advance in life.

You have so many provisions for you to enjoy, but you have to work to receive them. Live, enjoying the benefits of Christ and redemption but still, get work done! Do what is required of you and you would enjoy the bliss and goodness of life that you desire. There is no limit to what you hands can do, so use it productively.

Remain Blessed!
