Topic: Walking in Love [Monday April 13, 2015]

“Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.” – Colossians 3:14

Love is often described as the foundation of every healthy and peaceful marriage. Most times, especially when you intend to marry a man or woman, you’re asked “do you love him or her?” The issue of love is most commonly discussed, but do we practice it in its original state? Is love just about saying an “I love you” daily or buying gifts?

The Bible clearly states, according to 1 Corinthians 13, all that love should be. While this should be everyone Christian’s watchword, it should be specifically practiced in marriage. It is our inability to practice what love really means that affects marriages. I have heard people say that engaging just love in marriage is not enough, but for the most part, it is.

If you look at the definition of love from scriptures, it says love is patient. This means it has the ability to absorb whatever wrong anyone would do to you. It also says it is kind, not proud, does not rejoice in evil but strives to do good at all times. It believes in the ability of your spouse to be better, and can easily make excuses for them when they disappoint. It is not easily angered and does not device evil means to cheat, deceive or abuse your spouse. When you meditate on this aspect of the Bible and try to emulate it with the help of the Holy Spirit, you find out that engaging in God’s perspective of love is enough to sustain and nourish your marriage.

The reason why people feel love is not enough to hold their marriage is because they either have not starting walking in the reality of love, or they feel it is too difficult for them to do. If you and your spouse decide to make this your watchword, meditate daily on it and walk step-by-step to achieving this God kind of love, your marriage will be more than words can describe. You will have no need to worry about each other, because you have been shielded by this principle. You will not fail in marriage!

Remain Blessed!
