Topic: Helping or Hurting [Monday April 20, 2015]

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”-Galatians 6:2

There is always a part to play, and a responsibility laid on you to fulfil, in your spouse’s life. You are not there for show or just to be addressed with the title of a spouse. Several homes have lost the honour and dignity ordained for them, simply because they do not understand their roles as divine helpers to their spouse.

This help may come in different ways, and addresses the various aspects of one’s life. Your spouse’s life should be better, as a result of his/her association with you. Do not use his/her weaknesses against him, nor despise him for his weaknesses and seek opportunities to disgrace him in the public. Rather, as rendering help, you are to surround your spouse with aid and assistance in those identified weak areas.

God wants you to help that man/woman with all the spiritual, emotional and physical aid he/she requires. Be a helper and not a destroyer, an asset and not a liability, a blessing not a burden, and a soothing balm not a thorn in the flesh. Give advice when they most need it, encourage them to do better, say words that would build up their spirit and not deflate it. Endeavour to show an act of kindness daily and give them all the support you can render.

You don’t need to nag your spouse over everything, and it is unnecessary to run them down in the presence of family and friends. Marriage is between the both of you, so it takes your coming together to make it work. Don’t necessarily seek for what to gain; aspire to be of immense help to your spouse today.

I dare you: show your spouse random acts of kindness today.

(Wash the dishes, do laundry, rearrange the living room or just compliment them. Do something special to make him/her smile.)

Remain Blessed!
