“Charity… Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”-1 Corinthians 13:7

Often times, when you meet intending spouses, one of the questions most likely asked is why they decided to get married. The obvious answer given is always, because “I love him,” because “I love her.” However, after being in the marriage for a while, when things get sour, you begin to hear horrible words from them about the person that 4 or 5 years ago, they claimed to be so in love with. When this happens, I tend to ponder on if the love that they so described was that love in line with this Scripture.

The love I have come to understand is thick enough to absorb whatever is brought its way and deep enough to accommodate. It can bend because is a living thing and is flexible; therefore, also having the capacity to grow. However, the kind of love professed these days can be likened to a flash drive with mega byte capacity. Though it retains information, its capacity is too small for the work you intend for it to do.

The Bible says “Love beareth and endureth,” so it does not give up or end the marriage at the slightest provocation. It creates room to forgive, even as it strives not to offend. Love seeks for ways to give, even without getting anything in return. That is why the Bible says it is the greatest, because its capacity is indescribable.

If only couples, married or intending, aim to study, understand and act in the reality of love, marriage would be the sweetest adventure ever. One way you can come to the understanding of this, is to put your name before every characteristic as described in 1 Corinthians 13 and with sincerity, measure your love level and work at it. If you are a child of God and the apple of His eyes, then you must exhibit God’s nature of love to the fullest, especially in your marriage. You will not fail God!
