Topic: Little but Destructive [Saturday 21 November, 2015]

“Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!”-James 3:5

Fires are often started by the strike of a match. No matter the size of the match, it has the capacity to start a great fire. Similarly, the tongue is one of the smallest members of the body, but has the capacity to spark up great fire of mass destructions in the home. Amongst many things that destroy the home, the most common and grievous is an unkept and unguided tongue. It sinks deep into the heart of the recipient and shatters relationships with even the best of friends.

Most times, in the midst of anger, people say things they don’t mean because suppressed thoughts become words, thereby stirring up more anger, strife, quarrels and divisions from both parties. If you do not control what you say to and about your spouse, there won’t be peace in your home. An unbridled tongue cuts deeper than a knife, and the wounds even when healed, still leave lasting scars.
You don’t need to always give back words when you are angry or displeased. At times, your silence speaks more and holds more value than many angry words. More so, you could state your disapproval of something or someone, without using hateful and hurting words with/to them. The truth is: When you hurt your spouse with words, the pain is not only felt by him or her, but also by you in return. This is because whether you accept it or not, the effect of your wrong words will always hunt you.

You might not be able to control your feeling of anger over certain situations, but you can control what you do and say at that time. At all times, your words should be of edification, that it might minister grace unto the hearer (Ephesians 4:29). Corrections or expressions of disapproval don’t always have to be harsh. It would make more meaning if the words are selected lovingly and carefully. Receive grace to speak with caution at all times in the name of Jesus Christ!

Remain Blessed!
