Topic: Who’s Responsibility? [Sunday March 22, 2015]

“My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:” – Proverbs 6:20

In all my years studying the Bible, I have not seen any one scripture that says training and nurturing a child is the SOLE responsibility of one party. That brings me to a conclusion that God has designed that both father and mother are involved in the growth, wellbeing and development of a child: spiritually, physically and mentally.

It is a joint responsibility, and it is non-transferrable. This entails feeding your child physically, spiritually and intellectually. Most times, fathers leave the responsibility of moulding the destinies of their children alone for the mothers. When things go right, the fathers take the credit and when the child exhibits improper behaviours, the mothers get the blame.

Indeed there are times when the husband’s job does not permit him the time needed with/for his children. As mothers, you have a better way of creating that time for him so your children would not miss out of the importance of having a father as an instructor and guide. You could do this by helping them have access to him, organising alone times for them, helping your husband create a schedule that would accommodate the children and also talking to/ encouraging him on the need to spend some time with them.

As you engage in training and nurturing the children together, they feel that sense of love, commitment and appreciation. It also curbs rebellious acts that might have come as a result of neglect, and helps them be better individuals. Also, joint training builds the confidence of your children and even when there are lapses, it is unnoticeable because both hands come together to bring about a better family.

Choose to work together as a team today, and watch the turnaround in your home and children.

Remain Blessed!
