Topic: Becoming an Excellent Student [Thursday April 2, 2015]

“Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.”-Daniel 6:3

Have you ever wondered why some people do extremely well in class, while others are left with average or below average performance? It is not because they have any special ability or the teacher prefers them to the rest, but they have set their minds to put in their best in their academics, and it in return pays off through an excellent performance.

Everyone has an equal ability or capacity to be the best at whatever they do; but it is the quality of your labour that determines whether or not your work would be excellent, average or below average. As a student, you should give your best to your studies, because that is your current work. The Bible says “seeth thou a man diligent in his business, he shall stand before kings and not mean men”.

Diligence means giving your best to your given task and that is what excellence requires. To be extremely good, you need to give all it takes. This means you have to study more, do your assignments and ask questions on areas of subjects not clear to you.

Preferably, read or study your subjects daily. Your free periods should be devoted to studying what you have learnt for the day. When you do that, you are not only refreshing your mind, but you gain mastery of that topic; and when this is consistently done, you become increasingly better at it.

Also, you must know your study time. While some people assimilate better at night, others might be better off studying during the day or in early hours of the morning. So, choose a time when you most prefer and devote that time to your study. You must also know that there is nothing excellent without God. Therefore, as you take heed to the above, put Him first and ask Him to direct and make you of quick understanding. I see you becoming excellent in all your subjects from today!

Remain Blessed!
