Topic: Beauty Is Skin Deep [Tuesday April 14, 2015]

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”-1 Peter 3:3-4

Most manufactures of cosmetics often use the above line to sell their product, because it is believed that a healthy skin equals a stronger and more confident you. However, beauty is beyond your skin, clothes, jewellery collections, cologne and everything that makes up for your appearance. It has more to do with who you are; your person.

While things that beautify you on the outside are helpful, your major focus should be on developing your inner beauty. This means building your inner qualities, developing your potentials to match up with your outward beauty. Your inner beauty is your real appearance. It goes beyond the physical to influence your entire life. It has to do with your character, habits and lifestyle. It is who you really are in the face of the world.

Someone rightly said that “outer beauty pleases the eye, while inner beauty captivates the heart.” This is because it is characterised first by your love for God and humanity, and your care and compassion towards others. It is your heart felt desire to be who God has created you to be, thereby doing all it takes to work at it.

How healthy is your Christian life? how do you treat the Word and fellowships? how often or well do your extend God’s love to those around you? do you have a kind and compassionate heart? and are you ready to do all it takes for the good of humanity? All these and more are a true pointer to how beautiful you really are. Max Lucado said, “A woman’s heart should be so hidden in God that a man has to seek Him just to find her.” When you heart is so hidden in Him, you will willingly and without stress, please Him with your lifestyle. Remember, your true beauty goes beyond the physical; it is deep within your soul.
