Topic: Success in marriage is not a promise [Tuesday July 7, 2015]

“…Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” – Philippians 2:12

I hope this title does not surprise you. Too many people misquote Scriptures by saying God has promised them a hitch-free marriage. So, they fold their hands, expecting that everything will just fall in place, on its own. However, I want you to understand that a successful marriage is not a promise, it is a covenant.

A promise is a written or verbal undertaking to perform a task, without any conditions attached to it. So, whether you make an effort or not, that person is bound by his or her words to keep that promise. However, a covenant is a formal contractual agreement between two or more parties, with each party agreeing to do something as a prerequisite to receiving some benefit.

Many people, especially Christians, think that success in marriage comes as a benefit of their being Christians, so they fold their hands, waiting endlessly to see how things unfold. To their amazement, when it turns out on the contrary, they begin to blame God; as if He has failed.

You must understand that God cannot fail! It is only man that has failed to play his role due to ignorance or lack of commitment. A successful marriage involves you using the instrument of studying and obeying the Word of God, prayers and faith to attain it. When you abide diligently to all God’s commandment in Scriptures concerning building a healthy marriage, coupled with prayers against unseen forces and your faith in God to perform His side of the deal, your marriage enjoy the bliss it is ordained for.
So, whether single or married, you must get committed to finding the deed of agreement as contained in Scripture, keep to every term and condition written in it, and expect God to perform His side of the deal, as you do yours. As you do this, you will enjoy your marriage in the name of Jesus Christ!

Remain Blessed!
