Topic: Don’t let it out! [Tuesday 22 September, 2015]

“Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;”-Hebrews 12:15

Jealousy and bitterness go hand-in-hand. This is because an outburst of bitterness springs from a blast of a prolonged, covered well of jealousy. Jealousy is a dangerous emotion. Many, particularly women, have been caught in its trap. However, to detangle yourself from it, you must know how it starts, so you can take caution in such instances.

Jealousy can come from a feeling that others are getting ahead of you. You should know that life is not a competition, so don’t try to keep up with anyone. You may aspire to get to or surpass someone’s achievement, but never expose yourself to an unnecessary, competitive situation. Instead of being jealous of other people’s success, you should get tips from them and apply same.

Jealousy can also come from a feeling of insecurity, and this you know is a function of poor self esteem. Maybe someone is always “better” than you at a particular task, or you are afraid of losing anything or becoming less popular, you need to put your emotions under control. Insecurity stops you from being sensitive to picking the good in any situation and it also makes strong relationships go sour. It creates an evil name for you and the Bible says a good name is better than riches.

Jealousy could also be as a result of comparison and envy, which have negative side-effects on you, your work and relationships. You should know that you are uniquely made and so you must find your uniqueness and stand by it. Other than look elsewhere, ask God to show you the path to go and trust Him to the point that you believe that where and whatever happens on your path, it would surely end in your greatness. Don’t let jealousy have its way in you, or you might just lose everything altogether.

Remain Blessed!
