Topic: Defraud not one another [Wednesday April 8, 2015]

“Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.”-1 Corinthians 7:5

In many years of counselling, I have heard many people quote this scripture, especially men because most times they feel less sexually satisfied by their wives. Some women on the other hand seem like they have not seen this aspect of Scripture because they see their bodies as viable instruments to inflict punishment on their husbands. They feel that by avoiding sexual intimacy, they effectively pass the message across that they are upset. After all, they say, it is “my body, and I can do whatever I please with it”.

However, you need to understand that in marriage, your body belongs to your husband and his belongs to you. Your submission includes that you the submission of your body; withholding nothing, including yourself. Some people have gotten into marital crisis because they either failed to understand this aspect or refused to accept it.

God has ordained that the couple be satisfied with each other, by meeting their physical needs. You body should not be used as a tool for manipulation; rather it should be shared with your spouse in excitement, love and care. The only grounds in which you are permitted to stay away is on spiritual exercise and that is with spousal agreement.

Anyone who withholds his or her body unnecessarily from their spouse is aiming for trouble; it remains a sensitive area that can either breed unity or cause divide. Though time spent on physical union in marriage is minimal, without it, marriage is incomplete. You must bear in mind that it is not a physical act alone, but one that symbolises oneness in spirit, in obedience to God’s will.
Remain Blessed!
