BIBLE TEXT: John 2:1-9 (KJV)
1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
LESSON INTRODUCTION: The story of the wedding in Cana of Galilee tells us that an unrelenting attitude pays, it yields positive ending, but one major take home in that story is getting Jesus into your daily endeavour. When the wedding was drawing towards a shameful ending due to the exhaustion of resources, His presence changed the ridiculous tune to a miraculous melody. His influence can rewrite your story to positive vibes.
LESSON AIM: To help members know the importance of allowing Jesus to effect positive changes they desire.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:
- Know that, then, there was a problem.
- Know how to change then to now.
TEXT REVIEW: John 2:1-9
a. When you are at a crossroads, never lose His presence.
b. Always make your request known to God. Nehemiah 2:4, Philippians 4:6
c. What you have gives you what you want. 2 Kings 4:1-7
d. His presence ends all troubles. Luke 7:11-17
LESSON OUTLINE ONE: THEN, THERE WAS A PROBLEM
- Wine ran out. Wine at the wedding reception represents:
- Symbol of Joy and celebration, it means then joy and celebration ceased.
- Sign of love and unity, it means withdrawal of harmony and being replaced with bitterness.
- Toast of good wishes. It means enemy replaced it with bad wishes
- There was limitation of resources, insufficiency set in.
- There was no rescue from impending shame.
- There was an interruption from having a good beginning.
- The Enemy brought interruption to divine order (be fruitful and multiply).
LESSON OUTLINE TWO: HOW TO CHANGE THEN TO NOW?
Then, wine stopped, but divine leading salvaged the dreadful situation through the mother of our Lord Jesus, who prompted Him to restore order to the calamitous situation.
TO CHANGE THEN TO NOW:
a. Obey divine instruction. Job 36:11,
b. Seek for help, closed mouth is a closed destiny. 2 Kings 4:1-7.
c. Resist every evil plan to divine order.
d. Get the transformative power.
e. Invite Jesus to your situation and turn emptiness to abundance. Hebrews 13:8,
SUMMARY: The enemy may bring interruption to the divine order of being fruitful and multiplying; but God knows how to effect His intervention to correct demonic imposition.
CONCLUSION: In John 2:9, Jesus showed miraculous transformation at the wedding in Cana, turning then (impending shame, reproach), with His power, to wine. This symbolises God’s power to bring the best blessings at the right time and the joy of His presence in one’s life.
PRAYER POINTS:
- Father, thank You for changing my story from then and now.
- Father, let every negative then in my life be swallowed up by a glorious now.
- Lord, I refuse to return to what You have already delivered me from.
- Lord, please establish my new identity in Christ.
- Father, sustain me so I will not fall back to my former ways.
