OPENING PRAYER: Father, breathe decency into our lifestyle, including how we dress in public.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The leaders should remind the members of last week’s discussion on unhealthy relationships, the effects, and how to address it
MEMORY VERSE: And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock. – Exodus 2:19 (KJV)
BIBLE TEXT: Exodus 2:15-19 (KJV)
15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.
16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.
17 And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.
18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?
19 And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.
LESSON INTRODUCTION: The primary purpose of dressing is to cover one’s nakedness and to glorify God. As children of God, we should let our dressing give glory to God. Our dressing is the first description of who we are. Our character is judged by our style of dressing.
LESSON AIM: To give a proper account and explanation on how we ought to physically and spiritually dress.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:
- Understand the mind of God concerning manner of dressing.
- Take responsibility for our manner of dressing.
TEXT REVIEW: Exodus 2:15-19
- Moses, who was a Jew, was called an Egyptian because of his dressing.
- The seven daughters of a priest of Midian, mistook Moses for an Egyptian because of his dressing.
- The task and ability of an individual cannot be judged by the dress he’s wearing.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE: WHAT DOES DRESSING SAY ABOUT GOD’S CHILDREN?
- It should differentiate believers from the world. – 1 John 2:15
- It should not become a tool of seduction. – Philippians 4:5
- It should portray and send messages of Godliness. – 1 Timothy 2:9
- It should reveal how much we love and value the Almighty God.
- Our dressing has a positive or negative influence on others, both old and young. – Romans 14:15-16.
LESSON OUTLINE TWO: DANGERS OF INDECENT DRESSING
a. It can lead to disrespect and insult.
b. It can lead to rape and assault.
c. It can lead to arrest and loss of pride.
d. It can bring shame.
e. It can incur God’s wrath on anyone who does it.
f. It devalues the person that is involved
SUMMARY: Dressing portrays your personality; please dress decently.
CONCLUSION: Dress well if you want to be addressed well, it is the quest of every believer to grow into the full stature of Christ; to have temperance and control over the body, to cultivate a sound mind and to be wise in all spiritual things.
PRAYER POINTS
- Thank God for bringing you out of darkness to His marvellous light.
- Father, create in every believer a heart of decency and perfect moderation.
- Father, blow your wind of change to every downgraded soul to indecency and make them new.
- Father, sanitize the heart of our youths from all manner of waywardness.
- Father, clean our nation from every act that pollute the heart of our youths

TUESDAY: Live holy and be humble; demonstrate this in your appearance. – 1 Peter 2:9-11
WEDNESDAY: Be distinguished in your dressing to the world. – Numbers 15:38-41
THURSDAY: Do not let the world squeeze you into its image. – Romans 12:2.
FRIDAY: If we glorify God in our bodies, we are dressing modestly and not causing others to stumble by the way we dress. – 1 Corinthians 16:19-20
SATURDAY: Beauty comprises modesty, self-control and Godliness. – 1 Timothy 2:9-10.
SUNDAY: Dress to cover your nakedness. – Genesis 3:21
