TOPIC: Prison Break? (Scroll down for RCCG House Fellowship 4 January 2026 Anthem)
OPENING PRAYER: Father, blast into pieces on this day every prison enemy may be keeping the lives and destiny of members of this house fellowship centre.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The leaders should remind the members of last week’s lesson on how God can overrule issues and limitations.
MEMORY VERSE: And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; – Acts 12:4a (KJV)
BIBLE TEXT: Acts 12:4-11 (KJV)
4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.
8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.
10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.
11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
LESSON INTRODUCTION: In Acts 12:6, the bible says the night before Peter was to be executed, he was asleep, double-chained between two soldiers with others standing guard before the prison gate, but he, Peter still broke through and got his liberty from the deadly king Herod. As God’s child, no matter what evil intention of the wicked devil may be, final approval belongs to our Maker to break every prison gate for his children to escape.
LESSON AIM: To help members understand that prison is not the final destination for His children.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be well informed that:
- The enemy has evil intentions towards the elect.
- God has the power to frustrate the enemy’s wicked intentions.
TEXT REVIEW: Acts 12:4-11
- Your present is not your final destination.
- For your victory to be total, your adversaries need to be exterminated.
- To every challenge you are going through, God’s presence is always available.
- Knowing God’s ability in every situation brings calmness to your stormy situation.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE: ENEMY HAS INTENTION.
In Acts 12:11 bible says Peter finally realized what had happened! It’s really true, he said to himself, the Lord has sent his angel and saved me from Herod and from what the Jews were hoping to do to me. There are deadly assignments of the adversaries over God’s children, and these are;
- To make you believe that you are lonely without God on your side. 1 Kings 19:4, 14-18.
- To labour in vain without meaningful results. Luke 5:1-5
- To see to it that God’s promises are delayed. Exodus 2:23-26, 1 Samuel 17:4-10
- To cause you to lose your faith in God. Genesis 18:12
- To steal, kill and destroy. John 10:10.
- To put God’s children in total prison just like he did to Peter.
- To blind the minds of believers. 2 Corinthians 4:4
LESSON OUTLINE TWO: DEVIL’S INTENTION CAN BE FRUSTRATED.
In lesson outline one, we saw some of the devil’s intention to the children of God, like to steal, kill your dreams, delay God’s promises from being fulfilled, but Almighty God has ways of putting the devil’s counsel to nothing, putting on the whole armour of God so as to be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Biblical Examples of how God frustrated the devil and his evil intentions.
i. The widow of Nain, shrouded with sorrow for the loss of her son, received divine attention. Luke 7:11-15.
ii. Mordecai and the Jews who were sentenced to death by evil approval received revocation of evil counsel.
iii. Joseph thought his dreams were lost until the message of hope located him in prison. Genesis 41:14.
iv. Shunemite woman without child embraced one with special intervention. 2 Kings 4:14-17.
v. The last meal of a widow remained inexhaustible throughout.
vi. Four hundred vagabonds, those in trouble, in debt, the misfit the followed David later became a mighty army that won great battles for Israel. 1 Samuel 22:1-4
vii. Meditation and study the word of God. Psalm 119:9,11, Mark 9:29
viil. Prayer and fasting, Mark 9:29, Isaiah 50:6
SUMMARY: To every challenge you are going through, God’s presence is always available.
CONCLUSION: God has power and authority over the devil. The devil does not have a free hand in this world to withstand divine concept, though he’s God’s children supernatural enemy, whose aim is to use pain and pleasure to make human beings miserable and unfulfilling, but HEAVENLY FATHER WILL FRUSTRATE his plans.
WEEKLY ACTIVITY: How can demonic intentions be frustrated?
PRAYER POINTS
- Father, break down every barrier to the fulfilment of God’s promises for my life. 2. Father, terminate everything that can cause me to lose my faith in You,
