PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: The teacher should allow the assistant teacher to review the lesson for the previous week.
BIBLE PASSAGE: Acts 1:6-8 (KJV)
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
MEMORY VERSE: He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. – Ecclesiastes 3:11 (KJV)
LESSON INTRODUCTION: God’s timing is significant in life (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). It is the perfect moment He has ordained for something to happen according to His will. It may be difficult for us to understand because it is not about our timing. God’s divine purpose for us starts before birth until the moment we take our last breath. Sometimes, something can be a great idea and can even be a God idea but for it to be successful, it must be in God’s timing.
LESSON AIM: To teach the concept of God’s timing.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of this study, students should be able to:
a. Describe the nature of God’s timing.
b. Explain what it means to understand Go timing.
TEACHING PLAN: To achieve the above stated objectives, the teacher should:
a. Allow the students to recite the memory verse, read the Bible passage, contribute to the discussion, and do class activities and assignment.
b. Allow the Assistant Teacher to see to the well-being of the class, and mark attendance and assignment.
c. Teach the lesson outline, summarise, conclude, evaluate the lesson and give an assignment.
TEXT REVIEW: Acts 1:6-8.
Jesus told His disciples to focus on their primary assignment rather than get worried about the time of the establishment of His kingdom on earth. For it is in trusting His word and doing His will that His plans are revealed. It reads:
- When they therefore were come together …….. V6.
- And He said unto them ……V7.
- But ye shall receive power ……V8.
LESSON OUTLINES
- THE NATURE OF GOD’S TIMING
- KNOW GOD’S TIMING
LESSON OUTLINE 1: THE NATURE OF GOD’S TIMING
A. God’s timing is perfect.
i. His timing is never early, and it is never late (John 11:21-23).
ii. It is always purposeful (Ecclesiastes 8:6a).
iii. He works all things for good in the lives of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
iv. God is in complete control of everything and everyone (Psalm 31:15a).
v. This is why Jesus told His disciples to focus on their primary assignment rather than get worried about the time of the establishment of His kingdom on earth (Acts 1:6-8).
B. God’s timing is beautiful.
i. It gives room for divine direction (Psalm 37:23).
ii. It supplies hope for a great future (Jeremiah 29:11).
C. It is not unlikely that we question God’s timing in our lifetime, especially when we are in a difficult situation (Psalm 34:19).
i. God knows exactly where we are at every moment (Psalms 103:14-15; 139:7-8).
ii. Sometimes, God uses hard times to strengthen us, allowing our Christian faith to mature and become complete (James 1:3-4).
CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Is it a sin to question God’s timing in one’s life? Discuss.
LESSON OUTLINE 2: KNOW GOD’S TIMING
A. The key to understanding God’s timing is trust.
i. Since human reasoning and understanding are limited, the Bible advises in Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding.”
ii. We should not stubbornly insist on our time and agenda (Proverbs 16:25; Psalm 37:23).
iii. Also, we need to know God to truly trust Him (Philippians 3:10).
iv. The best way to know Him is by studying, meditating, and obeying His word (Psalm 119:105; Joshua 1:8).
v. This will help us to discern God’s timing and make informed decisions (1 Chronicles 12:32).
B. We must learn to wait patiently for God (Psalm 37:7).
i. God is good to those who wait for Him (Lamentations 3:25).
ii. Our patience often reveals the degree of trust we have in God’s timing.
iii. When we wait on the LORD, we receive divine energy and strength (Isaiah 40:31; Psalm 27:14).
C. While we wait, we must stay connected to God through prayer (1Thessalonians 5:17).
D. Finally, we need the help of the Holy Spirit to understand God’s timing and make the right decision at the right time (Isaiah 30:21).
CLASS ACTIVITY 2: Is it possible to know God’s exact timing? Discuss.
CONCLUSION: God’s timing is the best; do not run ahead of Him.
EVALUATION: Identify ways to know God’s timing.
CLOSING PRAYER: Father, give me the grace trust Your timing in Jesus’ name.
ASSIGNMENT: Write out two (2) aspects of life where God’s timing is essential (5×2 = 10 Marks).

RCCG Sunday School HYMN
- O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School. - O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?
